“I’m very excited to be in Arizona because it’s where strong women can get things done.”
I like this partial quote from The Arizona Republic’s Q&A with Sheila Healy, the new executive director of the Arizona Democratic Party. It’s true. Women always have had a strong showing in Arizona politics.
Healy was asked about turning a politically ‘red’ state like Arizona blue. She is hopeful, of course, but I have doubts about Arizona turning blue any time soon. Even with declining party registration numbers, red burns bright here. I’d be happy with a healthy purple.
I’m an independent who likes what a lot of moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats like. But moderates don’t activate either party’s bases. I worry about the eroding middle in politics as much as I worry about the eroding middle class in income.
